« on: December 05, 2010, 04:21:59 PM »
This is something for you all to chew on... ;D   ...I kill myself sometimes.....

Please post your steps so the new class can follow along.  Those of you in the class please feel free to make your correction in any way you want.  This week forum members use curves and various other techniques to make corrections.
Our intention is to show off and hopefully open your eyes to some new ideas.

I used ACR to get detail out of shadows. Then in CM Lab mod to set highlight, shadow and neutral (used the white part of a strawberry as neutral) saved and then saturated with slider to 1.20 Problem was to get the size down without loosing too much detail

It certainly is more "open" but the blackberries look odd...can you help the black berries without hurting the yellows??

Greg, all I know about blackberries is that they are red when they're green :) I'm not sure what they should look like when black :P

More Blue than Yellow....They actually look better as a dark purple...Try to stay on the blue magenta side of Red on the hue clock....

Greg.....My attempt at the Fruit pic. In PS CS5, mostly used "Image > Adjustments > Shadows/Highlights"

Hello.

I experimented with Fruit-Salid1.jpg,  I am using Photoshop CS4.  In one of the images I used Curvemeister with the wizard and in the other used Curves auto.  I plan on continuing my experimentation and depending on the outcome may post some additional images.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Thank you

Hello.

In the previous message you see the Fruit Salad adjusted with PS CS4 Curves but the CM version did not post.  So, here it is.

Also, how do I select multiple images to post.  I selected the first one and opened it and then selected the second one., however, only the first one posted.  What do you suspect I did wrong with posting?

Thank you

Re: Hungry?? Once more using Shadows/Highlights - Much Improvement

Hello.

Upon reviewing the other posts I noticed the image sent by Tonee using Shadows and Highlights. I experimented with Shadows and Highlights and like this adjustment better then the other two performed by PS Curves and CM color wizard.  I now see the auto feature in PS Curves can have poor results and I probably did not use the CM wizard correctly.  Any suggestions.

Thank you

Greetings....

In order to upload multiple images you need to find the (More attachments) Link next to the browse button on the Additional options.  This will add lines to the listing.

I'll look at the images and have some suggestions soon.

dk,
This is an image that will be giving everyone a tough time because the shadows are really way off.
Another issue is the lack of a solid neutral tone.  These combine to make this an interesting challenge but not one we cannot overcome...

From your posted image I have taken a screen shot.  I added some hue clocks to the frame so we can see what is going on.
In the first image you have tackled the majority of the brightness issue but there is more..Looking at the hue clocks the image is too yellow.  In RGB you need to adjust the blue channel to fix yellow casts.  This is beyond the Color Wizard because there is no neutral to help you get rid of the cast.

In shot 2 you can see the blue curve I created to reduce the yellow in the berries and in the whitest part of the strawberries.
If you want to play a bit with the lighting this image can really benefit from a exposure adjustment in Photoshop.

Open the image before you go to Curvemeister and choose image>adjustment>exposure.  Set the Gamma to 2.25 or greater.  Then go into CM and see if there is more to work with.

More to Come

Tonee,

Photoshop can be very heavy handed when it comes to shadows and highlights.  the result can look like a solarized print in some ways. We can do that <solarize> in CM as well but we get some help from the program as we go so we recognize it and work to prevent it.

As you can see from your screen shot you might need to turn down the yellow a bit just like DK..

Instead of Shadow Highlight try image>adjustments>exposure and set the gamma to be 2.25 or greater...

Here is the image with an exposure adjustment....
This is a case where curves alone cannot recover the information in the image.
I used RGB to kill off some of the yellow after I opened the shadows using Gamma.

There will be more...

Greg.....I would like to see your final image in the beginning as to know what we are shooting at. Right now it's just a shot in the dark especially not know what is possible.

I'd love to post it that way but past experience has shown that If I post a final version others will not take up the challenge.
I will be posting a final today...Another image awaits us...this one I promise will be a bit more achievable...
