Quick Curves: My Favorite Spot in Monterey, CA
« on: September 08, 2008, 07:17:06 PM »
I took this photograph yesterday morning, at Point Lobos, near Monterey, CA.

This is an area where Edward Weston lived, and took many of his images in the first half of the 20th century.

Tried to keep the detail in the flat sections of the rockface.Took the color out in Lab,then an s curve of sorts in lightness.

Oh I've not heard of this guy - shame on me.

But lovely to try a B&W for a change - I think it is harder to make a good B&W photo than a colour one (not that I think this shot is better in B&W).

I think I prefer it with a dark background sea - or is the lighter sea better?

Finally colour

Nice, as always, Zog.  I like the look of the darker stone.

BTW - I believe you can edit your posting by clicking on the Modify Message link.  ON my system, this link appears to the right of the message subject.

Like the first exercise, I've followed Greg's example of the two-stage edit

This looks like a tricky image to me: it is hard to find a neutral without knowing what was the actual color of the rockface, so it seems that the only way to color correct it is to make sure that the values for the color of the sky, sea and greenery are within acceptable range. May be in few weeks I'll be able to do it, but not now. So, continuing the trend, here is a B&W version instead:
