I also have played around, but as you have not made any decisions. This is the software I was looking at.

Here is what I have done for this image set.

The HDR image is a pre-process of a Nikon Raw file for +/- 2 stops and 1 "normal"  so from the same exposure I have made 5 images adjusted for exposure in Camera Raw, then combined them into one HDR image and used the above tool for Post Processing.

The other image is a Curves rendition of the same image.

Opinions are requested....
I know these are Jpg files but the posting limits prevent more than that....
Barry, I will go look at the other program as well thanks!

The HDR seems to have more contrast to it, but sometime they can be a bit over the top. It is interesting that you created you 5 images in the raw converter and not in the camera. Seem to work very well. Was the original taken in raw? Would it work with the original in jpg and put through the converter?

The original is in Nikon RAW (NEF)

I did shoot some in varied exposure at the time but not all.  I am playing around with those as well.  This is an interesting little program.  The one you are looking at is more difficult to use so far...

The one I am looking at has been very straight forward....The tone mapping has been pretty easy and fast....the areas with more contrast also have tons more data in the full sized image for the shadows...it's wierd to look at them this way....I want to find a few images with more drama to see how the program handles them....

I know there is data out there because of the thresholding in CM.  It has been interesting to see if there is any need to threshold after the HDR process.  So far the images do not benefit from Thresholding after the HDR conversion.

Here is a Jpg file I processed with +/- 1 stop and normal.

This is getting very interesting.....

Some extreme colours, but interesting. I think the mediachance software looks more user friendly. Will give it test drive.

They (the colors) are right on the edge of extreme.  This image is from the Valley of Fire near Las Vegas.  As sunset approaches the colors in the distant hills are spectacular.  I can tone it down a bit but then it starts to look flat.

I have a long way to go but this is the farthest I have been down the HDR road...

I had some time this AM so I decided to play with HDR. I have included 3 photos. The first is the original, the second adjusted with CM and the third is HDR. HDR is fun and probably has a lot of potential, it makes some dynamic photos. I still am partial to CM and think that next time I will adjust the photo with CM before HDR. I did not spend much time on these.

Almost makes it look like a painting.....

I like the drama....I would agree that you need a strong image to begin with.  It sure helps the highlight detail....
